Goodness is a fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22)

God created the universe, and man, as inherently good. "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." - Genesis 1:31

After the fall, God provided a way for redemption, through Christ. Christ embodies goodness, and through Christ, so can we.

Goodness encompasses a lot of things, but we can boil it down to character. A person is of good character, and reflects goodness, or not. A person of bad character cannot reflect genuine goodness.

If the Holy Spirit is truly working within us, the world should see Goodness, with a capital "G." Not perfection, but sincere goodness.

Let each of us take stock of ourselves.

Does the world see Goodness?

Let's follow the example of Hezekiah.

"This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. In everything that he undertook in the service of God's temple and in obedience to the law and commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered."

- 2 Chronicles 31:20-21

Hezekiah, in all that he did, served God and was obedient to God's commands. He sought God. He worked wholeheartedly.

"And so he prospered."

Let us each ask, am I serving God in everything?

Am I being obedient to God's commands?

Am I seeking God?

Am I working wholeheartedly for God, doing His will?

If so, we will reflect Goodness, and be blessed. We will prosper spiritually and in other ways. Abundance and prosperity can come from God, as it did for Hezekiah, when the focus is genuinely on God, not on the material, and when that prosperity is used to help others and glorify God.

Goodness permeates the sincere Christian. Goodness comes from Godliness. Goodness is a fruit of the Spirit that advances us along the path toward Christ-likeness.

"Do not those who plot evil go astray?
But those who plan what is good
find love and faithfulness."
- Proverbs 14:22

"A man finds joy in giving an apt reply -
and how good is a timely word!
- Proverbs 15:23

"A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones."
- Proverbs 15:30

"A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
- Proverbs 17:22

"The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him . . ." - Matthew 12:35

"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
- 2 Corinthians 9:8

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
- Ephesians 2:10

Let Goodness abound in us, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
